Playground Safety

Over 200,000 U.S. children go to the emergency room each year for injuries they receive on playground equipment. Most of the injuries are caused by falls from playground equipment onto the ground. One way to prevent these injuries is to make sure surfaces around playground equipment have at least 12 inches of wood chips, sand or mulch, or are mats made of rubber or rubber-like materials. Adult supervision of young children on playground equipment is another important safety prevention tip whether it is at school or home. Playground equipment should be checked regularly to make sure it is in good condition. It is important to talk with your children about safety on playground equipment, such as, not pushing or shoving other children while on the equipment or not pushing another student too fast or too high on the swings. Students should use caution on the monkey bars since some children end up with blisters on their hands and they may slip and fall off.

Physical activity is an important part of maintaining our health and it is fun for children to take a break. They just need to follow some safety rules while on the playground.

Kindergarten: Kindergarten has been preparing for first grade by writing stories that have at least three sentences. In Math we will soon be composing shapes to make a larger shape. By the end of April we will be researching zoo animals to prepare for our upcoming field trip to the zoo on May 5th.

First Grade: First Grade has really enjoyed learning about living things this past 9 weeks. We are so excited to go to Barfield Park and explore nature through their wilderness station in April! Our reading is coming along great!  Regrouping and fractions are just a couple new math concepts that will be coming up soon! Looking forward to closing out the year together in first!

2nd Grade: The second grade students are going to get a surprise within the next few days. Our caterpillars will be arriving! They will be able to watch them go through the four stages of metamorphosis.

On April 19th, we will be traveling to Eagleville, Tennessee, to go to Lucky Ladd  Farms. We will be participating in the program, "Phenomenal Fossils."

Parent Training will be within the next few weeks. Please check your child's agenda for the invite.

3rd Grade: 3rd grade is gearing up and getting ready for TN Ready next week. Third grade teachers hosted a "Boot Camp" for students with engaging review lessons to get them ready to complete their ultimate TN Ready mission! 3rd graders know their mission is possible at KES!

Fourth Grade: Fourth grade is gearing up for TCAP/TNReady. Students need to continue to read nightly beyond the fluency folder. The measurement and manners field trip will be Thursday, April 20th. We will go to Strike and Spare to learn about measurement and scoring. Afterwards students will use table manners and proper etiquette at Demo's Steakhouse. This will help them further prepare for the Great Shake next year.

Fifth Grade: You may have noticed some kiddos in Kittrell that look a lot like 6th graders. Well, those are actually 5th grade students who are less than 5 weeks away from being middle school bound!! We are so proud of all the growth they've made this year, and we know that they are more than ready to make us proud as they go out into the world. We will sure miss the class of 2024, but we know they have BIG things ahead of them!! Parents be on the look out for information about upcoming middle school night!
